Biographical

Dickson Phillips has practiced law for more than 40 years.  In 1992, he became one of the first lawyers in North Carolina to be certified as a mediator.  Thereafter, he was a founding member of the Duke Private Adjudication Center mediator panel, where he also taught certified mediator training courses, and he held a term professorship in dispute resolution at the UNC School of Law, where he taught mediation and negotiation as an adjunct for a number of years.

Dickson’s law practice encompasses a broad spectrum of legal concerns.  He has handled both as a litigator and as a mediator a varied mix of business and commercial matters in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including contract breach, trade secret misappropriation and unfair competition, copyright, trademark infringement, internet domain name, privacy, land use, environmental, public records and governmental affairs matters.  Although not an environmental lawyer, he served two terms on the NC Environmental Management Commission and has substantial experience mediating environmental disputes.  In the last 20 years he has particularly emphasized intellectual property matters, especially trademark prosecution, administrative litigation and infringement disputes, but also including copyright and patent disputes.
