Biographical
Gary Birnberg, Esq., FCIArb is a full time arbitrator and mediator, specializing in the resolution of a diverse array of commercial matters both domestic and international, with particular experience in insurance/re-insurance, aviation, life sciences, sports and entertainment, fine art, and luxury goods. He has served as mediator, arbitrator, or special master in over 900 disputes and is known for employing his legal acumen and business skills to quickly grasp the facts in complex cases. He is appreciated by attorneys and clients for his ability to nurture trust and for the determination and creativity that he employs to find common settlement ground among the parties.
Mr. Birnberg is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit and Appellate mediator and an International Mediation Institute Certified Mediator admitted to the Bar in four U.S. states, including New York and the District of Columbia, a Distinguishted Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, in addition to his NADN fellowship. Additionally, he is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation (HCAA). He has served as an arbitrator or mediator and sits on panel lists maintained by institutions worldwide, including CAM-CCBC, Hague CAA, ICC, ICDR, and JAMS. He is a sought-after speaker and trainer in various areas of ADR. Recently, he single-handedly mediated to settlement a US$600 million limit of liability insurance claim in an international, multi-lingual mediation with 62 participants, including insured, insured’s institutional shareholders, some twelve insurers and re-insurers, and attorneys for all direct and interested parties.
He has been recognized for his work in both Arbitration and Mediation by Best Lawyers (USA 2022, 2023, 2024) and in Mediation by Leaders League (Brazil 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024)
Mr. Birnberg is a U.S. citizen and permanent resident of Brazil, fluent in English, French, and Portuguese with conversational capacity in Italian and Spanish.
