Biographical

Gregory G. Pinski is a retired district judge for the Montana Eighth Judicial District Court. While a district judge, he sat by designation on the Montana Supreme Court. 

As a retired district judge and experienced trial attorney, Judge Pinski is a sought-after mediator and arbitrator for other attorneys and a frequently-appointed special master by fellow judges.  Judge Pinski has an exceptional success rate resolving complex civil cases involving construction defects, business and shareholder disputes, real property, medical negligence, wrongful death, probate, product liability, premises liability, contract, and government liability issues.

Judge Pinski earned his bachelor of arts, magna cum laude, in political science and communications from the University of North Dakota. Before attending law school, Judge Pinski worked at the White House in the Office of Presidential Scheduling for President Bill Clinton.  In 1999, Judge Pinski graduated, with distinction, from the University of North Dakota School of Law, where he was an editor of the North Dakota Law Review. 

After law school, Judge Pinski practiced law in Minnesota and Montana and taught at the University of Minnesota Law School.  Judge Pinski completed coursework and served on the faculty at the National Judicial College at University of Nevada-Reno, and mediation coursework at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution.

Judge Pinski is an elected member of the American Law Institute, and appointed by the Montana legislature to the Uniform Law Commission.  As a member of the National Judicial Opioid Task Force, Judge Pinski authored federal, state, and tribal jurisdictional transfer agreements to expand access to treatment courts.

Judge Pinski is a tireless advocate for veterans and he is a frequent speaker and author on veteran legal issues. As a district judge, he founded a veterans treatment court and he serves as a judicial consultant to Justice for Vets and National Center for State Courts. He has implemented and trained veterans treatment courts in nearly every state.  Judge Pinski is a civilian graduate of the United States Air Force Air War College National Security Forum and the United States Navy Leaders to Sea program.  Judge Pinski was honored with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Award of Excellence and the University of North Dakota Alumni Achievement Award for his work with veterans.

Judge Pinski is active in many community organizations. He is an Eagle Scout who volunteers extensively for the Boy Scouts and Special Olympics. Judge Pinski’s wife, Amber, is a radiation oncology nurse, and they have two sons, James, a servicemember in the United States Coast Guard, and Jack.
