Biographical
Jason has extensive experience resolving a wide range of disputes, with an emphasis in employment-related claims and the interpersonal conflicts and legal issues that arise in the workplace. Jason previously served as a federal mediator with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for 25 years, and has conducted well over 2,000 mediations in the public and private sector combined. Jason works to expand the scope of the mediation process to include addressing the dispute with counsel before, during, and after the mediation session. Through diligence, creativity, and perseverance around impasse, Jason helps parties reach resolution even in difficult negotiations, using a flexible mediation style that is evaluative, patient, and empathetic.
Jason's mediation experience includes resolving hundreds of labor and employment matters involving claims of discrimination and harassment, disability and accommodation issues, wage and hour and misclassification claims, retaliation and whistleblower allegations, and conflicts between management and represented or non-represented employees. In addition to workplace and employment-related disputes, Jason has mediated civil claims such as contract and business disagreements, public accommodations, personal injury, landlord-tenant issues, and debt or collections matters. With a variety of mediation experience, Jason is able to help parties confidentially evaluate legal risk, business priorities, and the personal/practical considerations that impact settlement negotiations.
Jason has conducted mediation of cases pending in federal and state courts - before, during and after the discovery process. Early mediation experience at the administrative level includes claims pending before the EEOC, NLRB, DOL (Human Rights, Wage and Hour, Employment Security, Workers' Compensation), ED-OCR, OSHA, and various other state and local agencies. Jason is adept at working with represented litigants, pro-se parties, and insurance claims adjusters, and knows his way around the negotiation dynamics accordingly.
