Biographical
After graduating with honors from law school in 1982, Ms. Coogan started her career as a trial lawyer in New Hampshire and in Vermont. She has tried many civil and criminal cases, including felonies, to verdict.
Ms. Coogan has focused her work on mediation since 2006, when she established a conflict resolution practice in Burlington, Vermont. In addition to conducting mediations, Ms. Coogan also taught conflict management skills as an Adjunct Professor at Champlain College. In 2016, Ms. Coogan began her affiliation with Heilmann, Ekman, Cooley & Gagnon, where she continues her busy mediation practice in addition to assisting in the defense of professional liability claims. Ms. Coogan also performs Title IX and workplace investigations, and conducts independent reviews of public school responses to harassment claims.
Ms. Coogan has mediated hundreds of matters, including, among others, matters in litigation, divorces, probate guardianships, mortgage foreclosures, disputes between higher education students and administrators, civil rights complaints, and employer-employee disputes. She is a past co-chair of the ADR section of the Vermont Bar Association and a current member of the Vermont Association of Family Mediators.
