Biographical

SEN TAN SOLUTIONS, ALASKA
Arbitrator, Mediator, Hearing Officer, and Neutral Evaluator, September 2014 to date
Private dispute resolution services provided include mediations, arbitrations, facilitations,
and neutral evaluations. Disputes successfully resolved have included class-action cases,
complex business litigation, multi-party construction suits, personal injury lawsuits,
probate matters, professional malpractice claims, and domestic disputes.
SEATTLE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW
Adjunct lecturer Alaska Campus 2016 – 2019
Developed and taught a course on Alaska Constitutional law to third-year law students
completing their final year of law school in Alaska. Conducted semiweekly lectures and
seminars with Judge Eric Smith, assigned projects, wrote, administered and graded
examinations
SUPERIOR COURT THIRD JUDICIAL DISTRICT, ALASKA
Presiding Judge Third Judicial District, January 2012 - June 30, 2014
Supervised over 40 judges and magistrate judges and approximately 200 court employees
in twelve locations. Addressed personnel, budgetary, training, security, and logistical
issues.
Superior Court Judge Anchorage, March 1997 – June 30, 2014
Served as a general jurisdiction trial court judge with limited appellate jurisdiction.
Managed a civil and criminal docket and two therapeutic courts, the Family Care Court
and the Family Preservation Court, both focusing on substance abuse rehabilitation and
reunification of families. Presided over the Early Resolution Project to help nonrepresented parties settle domestic disputes. Served as one of two assigned settlement
judges for the Anchorage Superior Court for five years. Co-chaired the Children’s Court
Improvement Committee, chaired the Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee, and
served on many other committees including the Fairness, Diversity, and Equality
Committee.
ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF LAW, OIL, GAS AND MINING SECTION,
Assistant Attorney General, August 1989 to December 1993
Section Supervisor, January 1993 to March 1997
Prosecuted cases and after promotion supervised the section and outside counsel from
four law firms engaged in complex litigation over oil and gas taxes and royalties. Collected
over three billion dollars from the major oil producers in Alaska.
ALAKA PUBLIC DEFENDER AGENCY
Assistant Public Defender, August 1983 - August 1989
Represented indigent clients at the trial court level, then promoted to the appellate
section, briefing and arguing many cases before the Alaska Court of Appeals and Alaska
Supreme Court.
